In other featured televised fights on SHOWTIME, football legend and MMA upstart, the incredible Herschel Walker (1-0) will return to the cage to face Scott Carson (4-1) in a heavyweight bout. Bobby Lashley was set to face Ron Sparks on this card, however, Lashley dropped out after injuring his knee in training.

The full fight card featured five Ultimate Fighter season champions Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping, Diego Sanchez, Amir Sadollah and Efrain Escudero. Forrest Griffin was also scheduled to be another Ultimate Fighter winner to compete, but had to pull out.

A bout between Forrest Griffin and Antônio Rogério Nogueira was scheduled, however Griffin withdrew due to a shoulder injury. Griffin was replaced by Jason Brilz.

Melvin Guillard was scheduled to face Thiago Tavares, but Tavares was forced off the card with an elbow injury. Waylon Lowe then stepped in as Tavares' replacement.

YARENNOKA! was a mixed martial arts (MMA) event that took place on December 31, 2007 at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The event was promoted by the Yarrenoka! Executive Committee, composed of former Pride Fighting Championships executives, and held in association with Fighting and Entertainment Group, DEEP, and M-1 Global.

It was headlined by a fight between former Pride heavyweight champion and 2004 heavyweight Grand Prix champion Fedor Emelianenko and K-1 2007 World Grand Prix Finalist Hong-Man Choi. The undercard showcased many top lightweight fighters and was also marked by a marquee matchup of the Pride 2006 Welterweight Grand Prix Champion Kazuo Misaki and the Hero's 2006 Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Yoshihiro Akiyama. The event was a farewell show to Pride fans after their acquisition by the Ultimate Fighting Championship in early 2007.

It is also credited for inspiring the former Pride executives and the Fighting and Entertainment Group to create the new fight series, Dream.

Stephan Bonnar was originally slated to take on Matt Hamill, but was forced to withdraw when he suffered a complete tear of his left collateral knee ligament during training. He was replaced by Tim Boetsch, who took the fight on only ten days notice. Likewise, a planned bout between lightweights Spencer Fisher and Marcus Aurelio was cancelled due to a shoulder injury Fisher suffered during training. On March 20, 2008, the UFC website announced that newcomer Ryan Roberts was to make his octagon debut on short notice to face Marcus Aurelio as a replacement for the injured Spencer Fisher. In addition, this event marked the first bout of a series of fights between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.

Sonnen remained on the card, and instead faced Bryan Baker. The Filho/Sonnen rematch was later rescheduled for WEC 36 in November 2008.
